Rogers High In Newport Earns Reaccreditation From Regional Association

Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain said the review team was impressed with the school's English language learner support team.

NEWPORT, RI — Rogers High School in Newport earned reaccreditation with the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), recognizing the publc school's standard of "high quality and integrity," school officials said Wednesday.

The NEASC accreditation came after a year-long process including site visits, conversations with administrators, teachers and students, and a top-to-bottom review of the school’s academics and administration.

"Rogers High School receiving NEASC reaccreditation is a big deal, and a testament to the high-quality learning environment our teachers, staff, and administrators have put in place," Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain said in a statement. "NEASC’s review team was particularly impressed with Rogers’ English Language Learner supports, welcoming environment for all students, coherent curriculum, commitment to academic excellence and community partnerships. I want to congratulate our entire Rogers team for the work that has gone into earning reaccreditation."

NEASC reaccreditation report commendations for Rogers High School included:

  • The school’s commitment to establishing a culture of student voice
  • The numerous resources secured to meet the needs of the growing ELL population
  • The welcoming environment for all students, regardless of cultural background
  • The work to incorporate diverse perspectives in the curriculum so that all students feel represented
  • The significant progress in writing a coherent curriculum in a common format
  • The partnerships with the community that offer students a wide range of supports, both academic and social-emotional
  • The opportunities provided to students for project-based learning
  • The establishment of a flexible Crew period that may be used for academic and social-emotional support
  • The collaborative nature of the school committee and superintendent with building leadership.
