Santa To Make Nightly Rides With Newport Police, Fire

Santa is scheduled to meet with Newport's fire and police departments beginning Dec. 10 for his annual tour of Newport's neighborhoods.

NEWPORT, RI — With the holiday season upon us, Newport is once again busy preparing for the return of Santa’s nightly rides.

Santa is scheduled to meet with Newport’s fire and police departments beginning Dec. 10 for his annual tour of Newport’s neighborhoods. This year, Santa will ride with Newport's first responders through the streets to see the city’s children beginning at 5:30 p.m. each night Dec. 10, 12, 17, and 19.

Santa’s visit is weather dependent. If there is inclement weather on any night he is scheduled, he will do his best to complete his visit in that area of the city on the following night, city officials said.

Santa and his police and fire escort will leave from Newport Fire Station #2 on Old Fort Road at 5 p.m. each night and will continue until he has completed his tour of the listed area. To track his progress, all are invited to go to the Newport Fire Department Facebook page and click on the Glympse App nightly Santa tracker to follow where he is located in town.

As a reminder, parents are asked to make sure that children are accompanied by an adult, and they greet Santa from the safety of the sidewalk and not enter the roadway.
