Scammers Posing As Newport Police Detectives: Cops
The Newport Police Department posted that their detectives are not calling about missing jury duty.
NEWPORT, RI — Scammers are impersonating Newport police detectives, the department reported Wednesday.
"We have received reports of scammers posing as detectives from the Newport Police Department, claiming that residents have missed jury duty and need to pay a fine," the department posted to its Facebook page.
"This is a scam!" the post said. "If you receive such a call, do not engage or provide any personal information."
