Severe Thunderstorms Hitting Rhode Island: National Weather Service

Expect thunderstorms and some downpours before 3 p.m., across the Ocean State.

RHODE ISLAND — There's an elevated risk of strong to severe thunderstorms in Rhode Island all day on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A chance of showers overnight Monday into Tuesday will give way to an increased risk of storms bringing downpours and high winds throughout the day Tuesday, according to the weather service.

The weather service also published a hazardous weather outlook bulletin Monday morning covering all of Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Here's the thunderstorm forecast for Rhode Island on Tuesday from NWS:

Tuesday: Showers and thunderstorms before 3 p.m. Then expect s patchy fog between noon and 2 p.m. Otherwise, the day is expected to be mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Tuesday Night: A slight chance of showers between 10 p.m. and midnight. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 62. West wind, 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
