Snow Delays Trash Pickup In Newport, How Much Fell

NEWPORT, RI — Sunday's unexpected snowstorm prompted Newport officials to delay trash pickup by one day this week. This includes trash, recycling and bulky item pickups.
The Waste Management transfer station will operate during normal hours on Monday.
The storm prompted a one-hour delay for Newport schools, and the cancellation of morning preschool.

No parking ban was in place in Newport as of Monday morning. City officials reminded residents to clear the sidewalks adjacent to their property within four hours of the snow ending, and to check nearby storm drains to make sure they are not clogged with snow and ice.
Newport saw seven inches of snow accumulation, according to the National Weather Service. Next-door neighbor Middletown had the same amount of snow, while Portsmouth had the highest accumulation in Newport County with 8.5 inches.
