NEWPORT, RI — Newport is looking for input from residents and community stakeholders to help improve traffic flow and congestion caused by special events.

With a busy summer season now over, the city is looking to develop new transportation guidelines to help minimize the impacts that large scale events have on local roads and neighborhoods.

The roughly 10-minute survey, which can be found here, is intended to help inform a series of recommendations that’s expected to be presented to the Newport City Council in the coming months.

City officials said they are especially interested in hearing directly from residents who have experienced a noticeable uptick in traffic on residential and side streets, as well as original ideas on ways to minimize traffic and encourage more use of non-motorized transit options.
