Temperatures Dropping Into The Negatives In Rhode Island This Weekend

Winds chills in RI are expected to be dangerous and reach their coldest since February 2016, according to the National Weather Service.

RHODE ISLAND — Rhode Islanders will feel the coldest air residents have felt in seven years this weekend, as temperatures are expected to drop below zero with wind gusts making it feel even colder, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service issued a wind chill advisory for all of Rhode Island that will last from Wednesday through Monday.

"A dangerously cold airmass will overspread the region late Friday into Saturday with the coldest air since February 2016," the National Weather Service alert said.

Friday is expected to see the coldest temperatures. By Friday night, Rhode Island's low will be around minus-4 with wind gusts of up to 39 mph — creating a dangerous wind chill.

Tuesday

Rain and snow before noon, then a slight chance of rain between noon and 1 p.m. The high is expected to be about 40. The chance of precipitation is 90 percent. At night, there will be increasing clouds with a low around 22.

Wednesday

Sunny, with a high near 33. Then at night, mostly clear, with a low around 21.

Thursday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Then at night, partly cloudy with a low of 21 and winds of 15 to 16 mph.

Friday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 30, but with a northwest wind of 20 to 25 mph. Gusts could reach as high as 36 mph. At night, expect mostly clear skies with a low of minus-4. and 24-26 mph wins. Gusts could reach 39 mph.

Saturday

Sunny, with a high near 19 and winds of 16 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 34 mph. At night, expect a low of around 10 and 10-14 mph winds

Sunday

A chance of rain with a high of 43 and winds of 14 to 23 mph with gusts up to 34 mph. The chance of rain is 30 percent. At night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 32. Expect 16 to 21 mph winds with gusts of up to 31 mph. The chance of precipitation is 30 percent.

Monday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 43. Northwest wind 13 to 16 mph.
