Thieving Couple Caught With $100K In Stolen Goods: Cops

The Massachusetts couple was nabbed after stealing from a Newport sailing store, police said

NEWPORT, RI — A Massachusetts couple was caught with more than $100,000 worth of stolen merchandise after they were linked to a theft from a Newport sailing store in May, police said.

Beverly DiPinto, 63, and Di J. DiPinto, 62, were captured when officers served arrest and search warrants at their Berkley, Massachusetts, home Thursday, police said.

The Newport cops started tracking down the DiPintos after the May caper at the sailing store, from which $471 worth of property was stolen, police said.

The theft was captured on video, according to a media release from the Newport Police Department, as was the couple making their getaway on a Suzuki motorcycle.

The couple was identified as the DiPintos, police said, and detectives "discovered that Di J. DiPinto was wanted on outstanding warrants for shoplifting from the Cranston and Warwick Police Departments.

"Detectives collaborated with the Berkley Police Department to obtain arrest warrants for both Di J. DiPinto and Beverly DiPinto, as well as a search warrant for their residence," police said.

During the arrest and search, police said, more than $100,000 worth of stolen property was seized.

Detectives are currently in the process of locating and returning the stolen items to the respective stores from which they were taken," according to police.

The DiPintos were arraigned in Taunton District Court and then taken to the Newport Police Department, police said.

Beverly DiPinto was released on a $10,000 surety bail and Di J. DiPinto, also known as Dennis DiPinto, was held for arraignment in Newport County Court Friday, after which he was to be turned over to the Cranston and Warwick Police Departments, according to police.
