Woman In Critical Condition After Crashing Into Tree In Newport
The driver was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with severe injuries to her legs and pelvic bone, Newport police say.
NEWPORT, RI — A woman suffered serious injuries after crashing her car into a tree on Wednesday morning, according to Newport police.
Around 12:43 a.m., police were called to Ocean Drive at Hazard Road for a report of screeching tires and a loud crash. When officers arrived, they found a white 2001 Toyota Corolla against a tree with heavy front-end damage and both airbags deployed.
Police said the passenger, a 39-year-old Taunton, Massachusetts, man, was outside the car. The driver, a 29-year-old Fall River, Massachusetts, woman, was unconscious and trapped inside the vehicle, police said. According to police, both the driver and passenger were wearing a seatbelt when the crash happened.

Crews from the Newport and Middletown fire departments extricated the driver from the car. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with severe injuries to her legs and pelvic bone. Police said the driver remained unconscious and in critical condition, as of Wednesday morning.
The passenger was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital for upper body injuries. Police said he is in stable condition.
