After 17-Hour Stand-Off, Man Surrenders To North Providence Police
Police said Gino Rotondo barricaded himself and his wife in his home for more than 17 hours, while armed with an AR-15.
NORTH PROVIDENCE, RI — After more than 15 hours, an armed man who barricaded himself in a North Providence home with his wife inside surrendered Thursday morning, according to police.
Police said the standoff ended peacefully. No injuries were reported. Providence police identified the man as Gino Rotondo, 55, NBC 10 reported.
Officers were first called to the Stephanie Drive home around 3 p.m., Wednesday, for a report of a gun shot. When officers arrived, they saw Rotondo head inside with an AR-15, according to police.

Police evacuated the area and sent out a tweet and reverse 911 warning residents to shelter-in-place. The shelter-in-place has since been lifted.
The incident began after a person assaulted his wife, authorities told WPRI 12. When Rotondo asked the person to come to his house, he shot at him, but missed, police said.

Police said they communicated with Rotondo throughout the night and eventually told officers he'd surrender peacefully if they got him three hot wieners and a pizza. But Rotondo didn't come out after police got his food. Police then cut off his power and called in Rhode Island State Police and SWAT member, before Rotondo eventually surrendered, police told WPRI 12.
Rotondo was taken to the hospital for evaluation and will face charges.
