• DCYF secures state approval to buy former St. Mary's Home for Children • Rhode Island Current (rhodeislandcurrent.com) — State officials have approved buying the former St. Mary’s Home for Children campus in North Providence to reopen it as a 16-bed psychiatric residential facility for teenage girls, restoring a level of care Rhode Island has lacked since 2024. The $760,848 purchase, plus millions more in renovations and environmental cleanup, will keep the property dedicated to youth treatment and could also steer leftover charitable funds into services there. 
• Rhode Islanders Have New Hotline To Report Beached Sharks (patch.com) — Rhode Island residents now have a dedicated hotline to report beached sharks, including along shorelines easily reached from North Providence. NOAA is asking callers to share photos, location details, and basic information about the shark’s condition so scientists can better understand shark biology and ecology in our region.
