Here are the top five stories in Pawtucket today:

  1. The Pawtucket Police Department is saddened to learn about the passing of retired Detective Robert J. Brown who served 35 years with the department.(Pawtucket Police Department)
  2. Rhode Island may join seven other states in allowing pharmacists to prescribe and dispense birth control products to patients. New legislation was approved by the state's House of Representatives this week. If signed into law, the bill would require that pharmacists complete a training program before writing prescriptions. (Patch)
  3. Giving credence to the bill passed recently by the U.S. Senate that would make daylight saving time permanent, Associate Director of the Bradley Hospital Sleep Research Laboratory, Jared Saletin said keeping standard time is better and explained that changing the time twice a year, "... has detrimental effects on mental health. It's even been linked to things like car crashes the day after the time switch." (Turn to 10)
