Here are the top five stories in Pawtucket today:

  1. Pawtucket resident, retiree and substitute teacher, Paul LeBon, voiced his opinion about the state of the Pawtucket schools in a letter to the editor in the Valley Breeze. He explained, "... the teachers are afraid of the administrators, the administrators are afraid of the students, and the students fear no one. They really do run the asylum. Pawtucket leaders have proposed building a multi-million dollar new high school, combining Shea and Tolman? How about establishing order first or the new campus will be trashed." (Valley Breeze)
  2. A formal complaint by the owners of FabCity Cigar Lounge on Newport Avenue against the Pawtucket Board of License Commissioners accuses the board of taking multiple illegal actions against the establishment during its Feb. 23 meeting. The complaint asks that the Office of the Attorney General find that the board willfully and intentionally violated the Open Meetings Act as part of an unlawful targeting of the tobacco bar in trying to have it shut down. The city is planning additional hearings on FabCity for March 31 and April 1 in the ongoing case stemming from the killing of one man and injuring of another outside of the bar in late January. (Valley Breeze)
  3. School officials are not happy with the initial look of the new Baldwin School calling it a “Boston design,” not a Pawtucket one. Jonathan Levi, of Jonathan Levi Architects, said he’s sorry school officials are disappointed in the results of the initial plans and he promised to refine the exterior plan and meet with school officials as many times as it takes “to have a building that’s a Pawtucket school. (Valley Breeze)
  4. In college news, several former Pawtucket graduates who are attending colleges and universities throughout the country have made the Dean's Lists at their respective schools. Do you know anyone on this list? Congratulations students! (Valley Breeze)
  5. Stop the time change! Twice a year we change our clocks, falling back in autumn and springing forward in spring. Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has long been an avid supporter of eliminating the twice-annual clock changes, arguing that a permanent switch to Daylight Saving Time would benefit all Americans. On Tuesday, the U.S. Senate approved the legislation, titled the "Sunshine Protection Act," by unanimous consent. It now heads to the House of Representatives. (Patch)
