Here are the top stories today in Pawtucket:
- Eli Sherman of WPRI-TV reports members of the Narragansett Indian Tribe are unhappy over efforts to build a monument of the Rev. William Blackstone at the intersection of Exchange and Roosevelt streets in Pawtucket. The tribe said organizers behind the effort didn't officially contact them for consultation. Critics say Blackstone's time in the area coincided with the violent elimination of indigenous people. (WPRI)
- Gail Ciampa of The Providence Journal shares the details on Pawtucket and Central Falls Restaurant Weeks, which are scheduled for Aug. 27-Sept. 19. (The Providence Journal)
- Ethan Shorey of The Valley Breeze reports General Assembly districts in Pawtucket and Central Falls were among the fastest-growing. That gives Democrats a greater ability to keep — or strengthen — their grip. (The Valley Breeze)
- WJAR-TV reports Keith Apicary of Woonsocket was to find out Wednesday night whether he would move on to the next round of "America's Got Talent." Apicary, whose real name is Nathan Barnatt, put on a show featuring "rhythmic spasms." (WJAR)
- Sara Dager of Only In Your State shouted out Woonsocket's Museum of Work and Culture, which is dedicated to sharing about life and history along the Blackstone River. (Only In Your State)
- Rob Nesbitt of WPRI-TV reports student athletes in the Rhode Island Interscholastic League will not have to cover their faces during the upcoming fall season, except while inside school buildings. Furthermore, teams will not need to cap the number of fans in the stands. (WPRI)
