Armed Robbery Suspect Turns Himself In

Woonsocket police said they arrested the 33-year-old suspected of robbing businesses in RI and MA on Saturday.

WOONSOCKET, RI—The suspect wanted in connection with string of armed-robberies in the area has turned himself in to police.

Woonsocket police said Joshua Matteson, 33, turned himself in on Saturday, not long after police announced he was a suspect in a series of armed robberies that targeted local convenience stores and sandwich shops.

Matteson is facing four counts of armed robbery and two counts of conspiracy from Woonsocket police and could face additional charges.

He is currently being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston after appearing at a bail hearing and will be arraigned Monday in Sixth Division District Court in Providence.

In Woonsocket, Matteson is believed to be responsible for his involvement in upwards of six armed robberies that occurred over the past two months.

In many of the robberies, Matteson brandished a weapon before fleeing with cash.

Police said the their investigation included robberies in January at the Shell on Social Street and Subway restaurants on Clinton Street and Diamond Hill Road.

In February, robberies occurred at the Diamond Hill Road Quick Mart at 814 Diamond Hill Road and the Woonsocket Convenience Store at 575 South Main St.
