WOONSOCKET, RI—Alvin Huggins, 34, will serve 50 years behind bars for murdering the mother of his two children, State Attorney General Peter Kilmartin's office said Monday. Huggins pleaded guilty to second degree murder for stabbing Yanira Flores to death during an argument on May 26, 2015. He was sentenced to 60 years. The last 10 years are suspended with probation.

Woonsocket police investigated the case.

Had the trial gone forward, Kilmartin's office said, the State was prepared to prove Huggins stabbed Flores in the chest. Their two children, then 4 and 6, were home at the time.
