Driver in Fatal Woonsocket Crash Charged with DUI, Death Resulting

Johnny Sak, 23, is also facing charges of reckless driving, driving without a license and refusing a chemical test, among other charges.

WOONSOCKET, RI-A 23-year-old Providence man is facing numerous charges in connection with the fatal Mendon Road crash early Tuesday morning in Woonsocket that took the life of the mother of his child.

Woonsocket police said Johnny Sak, of Providence, is being charged with driving under the influence, death resulting, driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, two counts of reckless driving, driving while in possession of a controlled substance, refusing a chemical test, driving without a license and several motor vehicle violations.

Sak was also wanted by Woonsocket police for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, eluding a police officer and driving without a license at the time of the crash.

Sak allegedly was behind the wheel of a four-door Saturn when he crashed into a utility pole. Four other passengers were in the car. One, 22-year-old Alexandra Patten Parenteau, of Woonsocket, died at Landmark Medical Center. The other passengers were treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Sak grew up in Woonsocket and attended Woonsocket High School.

He was arraigned and released in Sixth Division District Court on surety bail. He is due to return to court on Feb. 9.
