- Update on St. Mary's Church in Providence: Yesterday, we talked about the priest who is accused of “sharing child pornography over the internet at the church.” Also yesterday, a 28-year-old man accosted parishioners with a gun. Witnesses say the man was “yelling at the group to get out of here, and that they support child molesters.” At some point, he flashed a gun. The man was arrested and faces “10 counts of disorderly conduct and one count of carrying a handgun.” It is important to note that the priest on duty was filling in for the one accused of the charges. - Governor Daniel McKee intends to put the state’s money where his mouth is. As announced on Tuesday, a Back to Business Initiative will receive $4.5 million from federal relief funds. In turn, businesses “struggling to find enough workers” can receive up to $5,000 to “help them fill positions left vacant” by the pandemic. Local companies can use the money as sign-on bonuses, incentive payments, job fairs, and promotional materials. To qualify, you need to run a RI-based business with fewer than 200 employees. Applications start Thursday. (AP News)
- The Governor is not resting. Also on Tuesday, he announced the Learning, Equity, and Accelerated Pathways (LEAP) District Support Program. For two years, qualifying school districts can ask for funds ranging from $1.4 million to $4 million. Woonsocket is among the eligible districts. Recent standardized test scores alarmed officials. - Mount Saint Charles Academy is announcing its high school students of the month for October. They are Caroline Noon (9), Jack Montaldo (10), Brooke Kempskie (11), and Katie Mahon (12). Congratulations! (@MtStCharles)
