Laverne F. Provost: Grandmother, Avid Bingo Player, Accomplished Cook

Woonsocket woman died Nov. 7 at home.

 

Laverne F. Provost, 76, of Lilac Ave., Woonsocket, died Wednesday evening at home surrounded by her family, according to Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home.

She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Provost.

Born in Arkansas, she was a daughter of the late Lum T. and Birdie Mills. She was raised in Oklahoma and lived in California during her teen years. She met her future husband at Vance Air Force Base and they raised their family in Woonsocket.

Mrs. Provost was employed at several firms in the area including Tupperware, U.S. Rubber and American Tourister. She later worked at the Wrentham State School for many years before retiring.

Laverne enjoyed playing bingo and was an excellent cook.

Laverne’s life centered around her family and she will be remembered as being a loving wife and mother. She especially cherished her role and a grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by two sons Michael Provost, and his wife Cheryl, of Smithfield, Steven Provost, and his wife Lynn of Killeen TX, three daughters Mary Felicio of North Carolina, Paula Dorez and Patricia Provost both of Woonsocket, a daughter-in-law Beverly Provost of Woonsocket. She was the mother of the late Philip Provost and is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was one of 11 siblings with her surviving siblings residing throughout the country.
