PHOTOS: 'Lessons & Carols' Service Fills Precious Blood Church

Annual concert celebrated 13th year Dec. 2.

On Sunday, Dec. 2, Mount Saint Charles Academy presented “Lessons & Carols” at Precious Blood Church. This Advent service of prayer and song featured Mount’s band, chorus, handbell choir, and dance students as well as the faculty choir.

“Lessons & Carols” has become a tradition that has filled the church with more than 150 participants and an audience of 1,000 people. Mount’s very first “Lessons & Carols” was held in 1999 at Our Lady of Victories.  It has also been held at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, and at Mount. Since 2006, “Lessons & Carols” has been held at Precious Blood Church.

This year’s event featured a variety of music for the season as well as two special pieces that have been commissioned in past years specifically for “Lessons & Carols.”  One is titled Lessons & Carols, by composer Reber Clark of Chicago and the second is titled The Lord’s Prayer by Edward Diemente of Hartford.

Marc Blanchette, Mount’s music director, said, “This event really is a beautiful service that celebrates the season. Not only has it become a tradition for Mount Saint Charles Academy, but it has also become a tradition for the entire community. “
