SHIELD for Life Program Promotes Safe, Focused Driving Habits
Connecting for Children and Families Launched new program this week.

Connecting for Children and Families will begin conducting presentations of the SHIELD for Life program to members of the Northern Rhode Island community in an effort to encourage drivers to buckle their seat belts.
Rhode Island has a primary seat belt law which allows law enforcement officers to cite motorists for not buckling up, even if it is their only offense. The intent of the SHIELD for Life program is to educate residents about Rhode Island’s primary seat belt law, safe driving habits, and consequences of distracted driving. The program will be implemented to new and experienced drivers with a focus on males aged 18-34.

SHIELD for Life will provide participants with the critical resources needed to drive carefully. By implementing the program, we are not only protecting our neighborhoods, but encouraging drivers to adopt good habits.
According to Executive Director Terese Curtin, “We are very excited to be the recipient of a grant from the Department of Transportation to initiate the SHIELD for Life program. The message of this program will help educate our young adults and families on the importance of wearing a seatbelt and developing safe driving habits.”
