Thursday Five: Rain, Budget Commission, Diner, Marvels

It's Thursday - here are some things to know:

 

Rain - Yesterday's storm is predicted to continue hanging over Rhode Island today, bringing rain throughout the day. It' also bringing strong wind - There's a wind advisory in effect through this morning. Wind speeds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts of 50 mph possible. If you're wearing a hat today, make sure it has a chin strap.

Commission - Today the Woonsocket Budget Commission will meet at 3:30 p.m. third floor at City Hall for its open session. Among other items, the Commission will discuss wastewater interjurisdictional agreements and vote on a property exempt audit.

Diner for lease - Been itching to start up a new restaurant? Neighborworks Blackstone River Valley is offering experienced restauranteurs a lease of the diner car once home to “Champs Diner,” on Park Avenue, now waiting a new tenant and customers at 719 Front St. The car was one of more than 600 diners produced by the Worcester Lunch Car and Carriage Manufacturing Company. 

Applications to win the lease, including a resume and business plan, are due Feb. 13.

Marvel & Mystery - Connecting for Children and Families hosts "An Evening of Marvel and Mystery" with Rory Raven, Mentalist and Mindbender, acclaimed mentalist, 6 p.m. tonight at the Italian Workingmen's Club. Tickets are $25, and benefit Connecting for Children & Families. To purchase tickets visit the CCF website.
