Villa Novans Take On Clippers This Morning

Thanksgiving game may be a preview of Division II finals.

 

In what may be a preview of the Division II football playoff finals, the Woonsocket High School Villa Novans travel to Cumberland for this morning's annual Thanksgiving Day game, scheduled to start at 10 am at Cumberland's Tucker Field.

This year marks the 49th Turkey Day meeting between the teams, with Cumberland holding a 27-17 edge and four ties recorded since 1964. Both the 'Novans and the Clippers are scheduled to host their semifinal opponents on Tuesday night, after Woonsocket eked out a 29-28 victory over St. Raphael's in the quarterfinals on Nov. 10. Cumberland enters the contest as the first seed in D-II B after its 41-6 drubbing of Westerly in the quarterfinals.

History: Cumberland and Woonsocket have played 48 times on Thanksgiving since 1964. Cumberland leads the series, 27-17, with 4 ties.
