Wednesday Five: Sugar Shack, School Budget Tonight, Trash On! Friday

Good morning, Woonsocket - here are some things to know:

 

Elks Sugar Shack April 13 The Sugar Shack celebration will be held at the Woonsocket Elks Lodge at 830 Social Street from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 13. The AFGS Cabane à Sucre (sugar shack) will take on the time-honored traditions that are typically French Canadian. The event will include music by Fleurs de Lis, a local group that performs traditional French Canadian music. Doors open at 5 p.m. with buffet dinner at 6:00 p.m. The menu includes fresh cut salad, pea soup, French Canadian meat pie, New England style baked beans, maple glazed ham, Shepherd’s pie, bread, butter, coffee, tea and dessert. Visit their site for more information.  Tickets must be purchased in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

School Committee Wednesday - The Woonsocket School Committee meets Wednesday, March 27, where they're expected to vote to pass a $65 million budget, based on some assumed savings the Budget Commission is banking on.

Good Friday / trash on - This coming Friday is Good Friday, a holiday, during which the DPW solid waste division WILL be collecting trash and recycling. Call 401-767-8880 with any questions.

FRCA VITA Program - Family Resources Community Action is providing FREE Income Tax Preparation forfamilies with incomes less than $51,000. All preparers are certified by the IRS, andE-filing is done for fast returns. Appointments are available at Family Resources Community Action, 245 Main St., on the following days:

  • Mondays, Wednesdays & Thursdays: 12:30 to 4.30 p.m. Tuesdays: 4 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Fridays: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Saturdays: 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
