  1. Update on the Woonsocket School Fight: We learned Saturday that “the incident may have been sparked by (a) fight earlier in the week involving a former student no longer attending Woonsocket High and a current student.” Scuttlebutt that there was a knife involved in the altercation was found to be false. Moreover, according to the PD, “incidents in the community oftentimes do lead to other confrontations between juveniles.” (Woonsocket Call)
  2. License Plate Design Update: A while ago, we talked about the governor’s call for RI residents to submit new design ideas for an official state license place. The DMV has narrowed down the submission to five. You now have the opportunity of casting your vote until March 28 to tell the state which plate you prefer. (DMV)
  3. Impaired driving is a significant problem, and solutions are not easy to come by. The latest effort was announced Wednesday and comes from the “state’s new Impaired Driving Engagement Council, headed up by program coordinator and former North Providence police chief and Pawtucket officer Arthur Martins.” The Council will partner with Woonsocket-based BVPC and “focus on getting information about tools and strategies out to local communities to highlight the consequences of bad behavior.” (The Valley Breeze)
  4. Earlier this week, we talked about the death of a 25-year-old Woonsocket woman on her way to work. Since then, we learned that Wrentham’s Fire Chief has long since been bothered by the centerline on this stretch of Route 1. “They don’t call it Death Valley for no reason,” he said. They are calling for the installation of Jersey Barriers. (NewsBreak)
  5. Woonsocket-based CVS told its employees to come back into the office to work. “The doors to the Woonsocket headquarters are set to welcome back the thousands of employees that work there on Tuesday, but they will be going back to some changes.” One of the changes is that corporate employees only spend “2-3 days each week at one of the office locations and work virtually on the other days.” (NewsBreak)
