Woonsocket's Yiro Somera, 18, an enlistee with the US Marine Corps, was among 600 newly enlisted men and women from across New England competing in the Corps' 2013 Annual Field Meet. Somera tested his strength and endurance against those of his fellow enlistees at Chicopee High School's Football Field May 4. The annual Marine Corps event is designed to test physical fitness with a pull-up and sit-up competition to ensure that the men and women aspiring to be Marines are prepared for the rigors of Marine Corps boot camp.   Enlistees from western Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont and Rhode Island, attended the event.
