Police Say Woonsocket Woman Found Dead in Home was Killed
Police identified the 81-year-old woman found dead inside her Fairfield Avenue home on Wednesday.

WOONSOCKET, RI—Woonsocket police are treating the death of 81-year-old Constance Gauthier as a homicide.
Detectives said Thursday that Gauthier was found dead inside the house Wednesday morning.
The house reportedly was in disarray and appeared to have been ransacked.

Investigators have been at the house for more than 24 hours as they processed the crime scene.
Neighbors told reporters that Gauthier, known as "Connie" to many, was a sweet and kind woman who kept to herself and enjoyed working in her garden.

Authorities reportedly found Gauther's body under a mattress and neighbors said police indicated that there was some kind of altercation or disturbance inside the home before she was killed.
Police have not released any other major details about the investigation.
