2 Springfield Gunfire Incidents Under Investigation By Police
Fairfax County police are investigating two gunfire incidents in the Springfield area and released video of gunshots being fired from a car.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Fairfax County police are investigating two gunfire incidents in the Springfield area and released video of gunshots being fired from a car in one of the incidents.
Early Sunday morning, officers responded to the 6900 block of Cabin John Road for the sound of gunshots in the area. Officers found several shell cases at the location.
The gunshots did not result in any injuries or damage to any property, police said.

After hearing the gunshots, community members saw a suspicious vehicle speeding away from the neighborhood. The residents were unable to provide a description of the vehicle, police said.
A week earlier, Fairfax County police officers responded to the area of Highland Street and Channing Road in Springfield for a report of gunshots. Shortly before 10 p.m. on Oct. 13, several residents reported the sound of gunfire in the area, police said.

Officers found several shell cases at a nearby intersection. The immediate area was checked by officers, but no suspects were found, according to police.
Detectives obtained camera footage of a light-colored sedan, traveling west on Highland Street. An occupant from this vehicle was seen firing a gun straight up into the air as it traveled toward Backlick Road.
Police said they are investigating both incidents and are working to determine if they are related. Community members are asked to review their home surveillance footage. Surveillance footage can be posted for detectives to view via Neighbors by Ring.
