Amazon's Springfield Fulfillment Center Donating Unsellable Items
Unsellable inventory is supporting organizations like Carpenter's Shelter and Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — An Amazon same-day fulfillment center in Springfield is joining the e-commerce company's initiative to donate items to local charities.
The Springfield Same Day Fulfillment Center, which opened in 2020 at 6885 Commercial Drive, started a donation program to provide unsellable inventory to local charities. A January donation of nearly $16,000 in inventory supported Alexandria's Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and Carpenter’s Shelter as well as DC's So Others Might Eat.
The three organizations were chosen by Amazon employees at the Springfield fulfillment center. Animal Welfare League of Alexandria helps shelter pets in need and find them new homes, as well as provide community services to pet owners. Carpenter's Shelter serves homeless people with shelter, housing placement and more services. So Others Might Eat is an interfaith organization providing services to people experiencing homelessness and poverty.
