Driver Hits Patrol Car on I-495, Charged with DUI: Police

Baltimore man was arrested for DUI after hitting the Virginia State Police patrol car, which was on a traffic stop on the shoulder of I-495.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- Police say a Baltimore man struck a Virginia State Police patrol car late Friday night on the shoulder of I-495 near the Van Dorn exit.

Police charged the driver, Larry W. Menefee, 43, of Baltimore with DUI, according to VSP.

Police say that shortly after 11:30 p.m., Friday, Virginia State Police Trooper S.P. Shook was on a traffic stop on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of I-495 near Exit 173. During the course of the traffic stop, a 2016 Dodge Charger ran off the road and struck the trooper’s patrol car.

The patrol car had its lights activated at the time it was struck, according to police. Shook was seated inside his vehicle at the time it was struck and was not injured in the crash.

The driver was not injured in the crash, according to police. He was arrested for DUI and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
