FBI Offers Reward In 1998 Killing Of Sherry Ann Culp In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, VA — The FBI, together with the Fairfax County Police Department, is reaching out to the public, seeking their help on the 26th anniversary of the killing of a woman in the parking lot of her office in the Springfield area.

At about 6 p.m. on Jan. 16, 1998, Sherry Ann Culp was leaving her office, when she was fatally shot after getting into her Honda Civic. The mother of two, who was two weeks away from a scheduled delivery of her third child, was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where doctors delivered her baby via postmortem cesarean. The newborn, Kelsey, survived only two days.

Several witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man running on the sidewalk near the murder scene at Dynatech Court near Cameron Brown Court and Fullerton Road in Newington in Fairfax County, the FBI said. The man was wearing a dark-colored hooded jumpsuit.

Also, a “suspicious maroon pickup truck” was seen parked in the vicinity where Culp was shot, according to the FBI.

In 2020, the FCPD launched a cold case webpage to give more visibility to unsolved homicides, including the killing of Culp.

On Tuesday, the FBI's Washington Field Office said it is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the murder of Culp.

Law enforcement agencies are asking anyone with information about Culp's murder to call the FBI's toll-free tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Fairfax County Police Department at 703-246-7800. Anonymous tips can also be submitted on the FBI's website.
