Fairfax Co. Schools Employee Accused Of Possession Of Child Sexual Abuse Material

A Fairfax County Public Schools employee was charged based on a cyber tip that he possessed child sexual abuse material, police said.

Aaron Matthew Betts, 32, of the Rose Hill community in Fairfax County, was charged with one count of possession of child sexual abuse material and is being held in the county jail without bond, police said Friday.

FRANCONIA, VA — A Fairfax County Public Schools employee was arrested on Friday in connection with possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Aaron Matthew Betts, 32, of the Rose Hill community in Fairfax County, was charged with one count of possession of child sexual abuse material and is being held in the county jail without bond, police said Friday.

Police said the material that Betts is accused of possessing came from the internet and that detectives do not believe there is any involvement with Fairfax County Public Schools students.

In March, detectives with the FCPD’s Cyber and Forensics Division Child Exploitation Unit began investigating a tip submitted by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children indicating a CSAM, or child sexual abuse material, video had been uploaded to an online platform, according to police.

The national center forwarded the tip through the Virginia State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce to FCPD’s Child Exploitation Unit.

Betts has been employed as an hourly employee with Fairfax County Public Schools since September 2021, where he served in roles that included working with the intramural sports program, according to police.

“A full and thorough investigation will be conducted into Betts’ personal electronics to ensure the safety of our community,” FCPD said.
