Smash-And-Grab Thieves Target Jewelry Store In Springfield
Police are trying to determine if an armed robbery at a Springfield jewelry store Tuesday is related to two other jewelry store robberies.

SPRINGFIELD, VA — Fairfax County Police detectives are trying to determine if an armed robbery at a jewelry store in Springfield on Tuesday is related to two robberies earlier this month at jewelry stores at Tyson’s Corner Center and Fair Oaks Mall.
Shortly before noon on Tuesday, two men entered Sonia’s Jewelers & Boutique Inc. at 6681 Backlick Road in Springfield. The first man, wearing a white robe, was let into the store under the guise of shopping for jewelry, police said. Once inside, he showed a handgun and ordered employees to let the second man inside.
The two men used hammers to destroy the display cases and fled the scene in a stolen black Lexus SUV, according to police.

Police detectives believe the same three men are responsible for the two incidents at Tyson’s Corner Center and Fairfax Oaks Mall. “In each case, they used hammers to destroy the display cases and fled the scene in stolen vehicles. The stolen vehicles were found in nearby parking lots,” police said.
The vehicle used in the Springfield robbery has not been recovered, police said.
