Vega Wins Democratic Primary For Springfield District Supervisor

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Albert Vega defeated John Nowadly Tuesday night in the Democratic primary for the Springfield District, according to unofficial results.

As of 11:15 p.m., Vega had 54 percent of the vote compared to 46 percent for Nowadly, with only one precinct in the Springfield District outstanding.

Vega is a Springfield resident and co-founder of Alexandria-based company Building Momentum. Nowadly, a resident of the Fair Oaks area, is a Fairfax County firefighter and EMT.

The Springfield District includes West Springfield, Fair Oaks, Clifton, parts of Burke and Fairfax Station.

Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity announced earlier this year that he is running for re-election. First elected in 2007, Herrity, the only Republican on the Board of Supervisors, is the son of Jack Herrity, a former Fairfax County Board chair in the 1970s and 1980s.

For those who requested a mail-in ballot, it must be postmarked on or before June 20. The mail must be received by the Fairfax County Office of Elections before noon on Friday, June 23.

Before the polls opened at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, 33,235 ballots had already been cast countywide in the primary either through early voting or by absentee, according to the Fairfax County Office of Elections.
