VDOT will have a "Pardon Our Dust" meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 1604 at Hayfield Secondary School to discuss more of the construction details for the project taking place from South Van Dorn Street to South Kings Highway.
Improvements to this portion of Telegraph Road are still underway. The entrance to Huntley Meadows Park on South Kings Highway is currently closed to pedestrians due to construction. The entrance was closed in June after the temporary pedestrian detour along the northbound roadway near the Huntley Meadows Parking Lot was constructed.
According to VDOT, work on relocating the sanitary sewer along the southbound roadway will begin. Construction workers will also begin work on a drainage ditch on the west side near the limits of the project.
The project was originally expected to be completed in 2015. After making progress in construction, the estimated completion date is Nov. 15, 2014, according to VDOT. Drivers should expect traffic to be affected by the construction on the 0.2-mile stretch of Telegraph Road as construction continues — including periodic daytime lane closures during non-peak hours.
VDOT expects to have a few overnight closures of Telegraph Road to set box culverts later this year or in early 2014. Details of closures and detours will be announced in advance.
