Wrong-Way Driver Killed In Head-On Collision In Fort Belvoir Area
A 27-year-old motorist who was driving on the wrong side of the road in the Fort Belvoir area was killed in a crash Tuesday, police said.
FORT BELVOIR, VA — A 27-year-old motorist who was driving on the wrong side of the road in the Fort Belvoir area was killed in a crash Tuesday night after running into another vehicle head-on, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Mahdere Fassil was driving a 2014 Cadillac XTS westbound in the eastbound lanes of Jeff Todd Way just before Telegraph Road, police said. Fassil nearly hit two other vehicles before striking the driver of a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder head-on, according to police.
Jeff Todd Way is a four-lane highway with a grassy median strip dividing the eastbound and westbound lanes.

Fassil was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead, police said. The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder, an adult man, was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition and remains hospitalized, according to police.
Detectives with the FCPD are investigating whether speed and or alcohol were factors in the crash.
