More than 3,100 Lose Power in North Reston

Latest round of thunderstorms knock out electricity around Fairfax County Parkway

Update 10:06 p.m.: Dominion Power's outage map shows power has been restored to the area.

Original: About 3,163 customers in North Reston lost power Sunday afternoon as moved through the area.

The outages appeared to be centered around the Fairfax County Parkway, between Baron Cameron and Wiehle Avenues, according to Dominion Power's outage map.

Dominion Power could not be reached for comment on the cause of the outages nor restoration times. One Reston Patch reader said it sounded like a transformer blew up.

Another pocket of more than 1,600 customers appear to have lost power on the Vienna-Reston border, near Lawyers and Hunter Mill Roads, according to Dominion Power's outage map.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstom watch for Fairfax County and other jurisdictions across the Washington, D.C. area through 10 p.m.
