RESTON, VA -- Muslims working in the Reston Town Center area may finally have a permanent place to call their own, and have raised more than $6,000 for a new mosque as of Thursday morning.

The Reston Islamic Center would be located right across from Reston Town Center , and organizers have set a goal of raising $10,000 on Muslim crowdfunding site LaunchGood.

Currently, Muslims who live and work in Reston Town Center area had been meeting in the Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation synagogue at 1441 Wiehle Avenue, according to RestonNow, which first reported on the plans. That site is a satellite of the All Dulles Area Muslim Society in Sterling, the nearest mosque.

This would give Muslims in the area their own dedicated space to worship. Based on the picture shared on the campaign page, it appears to be a building located on Bowman Green Drive, which is located just to the northeast of Reston Town Center along Reston Parkway.

"Not only will this benefit the families around the area, but especially ease the working Muslim, who -- in an area filled with tech & Fortune 500 headquarters and the busy Reston Town Center -- are left out of being able to have their own space," reads the LaunchGood description. "As practicing Muslims, we need a space to offer our daily prayers with calm, ease, and serenity -- not rushing 20 minutes to catch the end of a khutbah."

The mosque will need monthly donations as well to cover the $2,000 per month for rent, water and gas.

"After the masjid [mosque] is up and running, we anticipate that, with the will of Allah, it will become self-sustaining with generous donations," the campaign adds.

Organizers promised on the campaign page to share before and after pictures soon. The campaign has a set end date of May 1.
