📰 News we're reading

• DUI Checkpoint Scheduled Friday In Carlsbad (patch.com) — Carlsbad drivers should be aware that police will run a DUI checkpoint Friday night from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. at an undisclosed location in the city. Officers will screen for alcohol and drug impairment, stressing safety and the steep financial and license penalties for first-time DUI offenses. The operation is funded through a state traffic safety grant.

• Police search La Costa Meadows Elementary School campus after 'potential threat' (10news.com) — Carlsbad police and sheriff’s deputies swept La Costa Meadows Elementary on Thursday after a reported potential threat, keeping students and staff sheltering in place but reporting no injuries or immediate danger. The San Marcos Unified School District emphasized that everyone remained safe while officers methodically cleared the campus and promised families more updates once the shelter-in-place order is lifted.

• Christian hopes to put ‘finishing touches' on comeback season (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Christian High’s remarkable football turnaround included a key playoff win played in Carlsbad, where quarterback Kaleb Runkle led the Patriots on their path from a 2-7 record to the Division 5-AA state title game. With a small roster, no true home field, and players going both ways, the El Cajon program leaned on grit, health, and late-season momentum to chase its first state championship.
