Carlsbad to address road concerns near Kelly Elementary (thecoastnews.com) — Carlsbad is moving ahead with safety upgrades around Kelly Elementary and a broader Safe Routes to School plan that could reshape how kids walk and bike to campus. City leaders also backed new parking near Pine Avenue Community Park and adopted updated building and fire codes, all of which could affect daily life in nearby neighborhoods.
   

2. Legal Notices, December 12, 2025 (thecoastnews.com) — Carlsbad is recruiting residents right now to serve on key city boards and commissions in 2026, from planning and traffic safety to arts, parks, libraries, and environmental sustainability. If you’re 18 or older, a registered voter, and live in Carlsbad, you can apply online or through the City Clerk’s Office to help shape local policies, public spaces, and community programs.
   

3. County approves more commercial flights for Carlsbad airport (sandiegouniontribune.com) — United Airlines is set to resume daily commercial flights from Carlsbad’s McClellan-Palomar Airport starting March 30 under a new county lease, adding four daily routes to San Francisco and Denver. The move, approved 4-1 despite objections from Carlsbad officials and residents over noise and environmental concerns, could increase airport activity while raising fresh questions about flight hours, permits, and an ongoing lawsuit over expansion.
   

4. Habitat for endangered least tern restored at Carlsbad lagoon (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Work is underway along Batiquitos Lagoon in Carlsbad to restore and protect nesting habitat for the endangered California least tern as part of a major railroad bridge replacement project. Crews are spreading crushed oyster shells and roofing tiles on a 4-acre site between the tracks and Carlsbad Boulevard, while thousands of cubic yards of sand and a redesigned bridge aim to improve local beaches and lagoon health for years.
   

5. Sage Creek's Josiah Bowman hopes to challenge nation's best at Brooks National Cross Country Championships (sandiegouniontribune.com) — A standout Sage Creek High School senior from Carlsbad is aiming for All-American honors at Saturday’s Brooks National Cross Country Championships on his home course at Balboa Park. After a humble start at the Carlsbad 5K in eighth grade, he’s now one of California’s top distance runners, hoping local course knowledge and crowd support will help him challenge the nation’s best.
