Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club's Work in Carlsbad

PRESIDENT VELYN ANDERSON REPORTS TO THE COMMUNITY

Velyn Anderson, President of the Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary for the 2024-2025
Rotary year is proud to report on the extraordinary work provided by the club’s
membership during the year. Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club (CHNRC) members
work together to provide “Service Above Self” in Carlsbad and worldwide.


Over 60 separate projects or events were completed in major service areas:

Food Insecurity: 24 projects that included 1,308 hours of volunteer work,
including delivering meals every weekday for 10 months and packaging meals for
21,500; working with Brother Benno’s, the North County Food Bank, Harvest Pack
and Meals on Wheels/Senior Meal Delivery.


Carlsbad Elementary Schools: 2 projects, bike-build/give away of 40 bikes and a
book fair for 500 students at Jefferson Elementary for 195 volunteer hours.

Carlsbad Middle Schools: 4 monthly projects that 38 volunteers spent 216 hours
teaching skills and curricula, sharing professions and experiences, and directing
specific curricula at three Carlsbad middle schools.


Carlsbad and Sage Creek High Schools: 1 Interact Club on CHS campus; 2
competitions (speech, music), 2 weekend retreats, 1 AVID conference; raised
$45,500 for scholarships through the raffle; analyzed and interviewed students to
distribute scholarship funds for Carlsbad students to attend both colleges and
trade schools.


Seniors and Families: Both Carlsbad Rotary Clubs created and implemented
Oktoberfest #42 that raised $117,574 for a multitude of Carlsbad projects
throughout the year; bought gifts for 14 needy families during holidays; provided
physical repair work on 2 senior citizen homes for a total of 127 volunteers
completing hands-on work projects and the annual Oktoberfest event.


Mental Health: 14 training sessions or community walks to raise awareness for
mental health for a total of 218 hours of focus and raised over $3,000 to produce
materials for parents raising teenagers.


Environmental: 34 volunteers worked 107 hours at the Buena Vista Lagoon to
clear trails and separate wood pulp from debris.


International Projects: bought 40 desks for a school in Kenya; provided funds to
build gardens for three schools in Cape Town, South Africa; provided funds for
solar energy generation and wastewater treatment in Poland; distributed funds
for food supplies and music therapy for the mental health of PTSD refugees at a
Peace Shelter in Ukraine; helped fund the rehabilitation of a school in El Salvador,
and provided supplies for special needs students at another school in El Salvador;
helped fund gifts and special needs supplies for disabled children in Tijuana
Mexico
; continued work on a water project in Kibera, Uganda; and helped the
club’s CHS Interact Club ship gathered books to schools in Africa.


Carlsbad Hi-Noon Rotary Club’s 59 members volunteered a total of 5,400+ hours
to the community during the 2024-2025 Rotary year . . . which averages over 90
hours PER MEMBER . . . creating smiles, teaching skills, reducing stress to
recipients and filling needs. Service Above Self is not just a slogan . . . it is an
ACTION ITEM! CHNR Members are People of ACTION. Plus, we had 19 social
events for club members to relax and enjoy one another.
