Here are the top four stories in Healdsburg today:
- Local spotlight! Mrs. Lorraine Ham, a 95-year-old Healdsburg resident, led the pie parade through downtown Plaza at the Art and Culinary Fair on Sunday. Both Ham and famous pie maker Dana DiRicco, also of Healdsburg, gave pie crust making demos to an enthralled crowd. April Lance, a local beekeeper who was born and raised in Healdsburg, drew an audience to observe an operational hive and taste both wax and honey. Sounds like the Fair was a success! Check out some photos below and see for yourselves. (Information provided by Gina Riner, Festival Director, and April Lance, of April Lance Bees)
- The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is looking to fill vacant positions on the Assessment Appeals Board. They are looking for community members interested in joining the board, which makes determinations about property values for Sonoma County property owners. Meetings for the board are generally held on the first Friday of the month at the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors Chambers, at 575 Administration Drive in Santa Rosa. Currently, there are two vacancies on the board and members are to serve a three-year term. Apply for the position here. (County of Sonoma via Facebook)
- Due to an excessive heat warning for the Bay Area, a cooling center will be open this weekend. Over the Labor Day weekend, temperatures are expected to reach extreme temperatures, climbing into the 100s. Residents looking to beat the heat can cool down at the Healdsburg Senior Center (133 Matheson Street) from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. from Saturday through Monday. (Healdsburg.com)
- Are your lights on? On Wednesday, the City of Healdsburg experienced a city-wide power outage. The outage was caused due to a loss of PG&E transmission. As of the time of this writing, power was expected to be restored by Wednesday night, about four hours after it was lost. (City of Healdsburg)
