Here are the top four stories today in Healdsburg:
- We have an update on yesterday's story regarding the Healdsburg citywide power outage. About 6,000 people were affected by the outage on Wednesday afternoon, which began started shortly after noon. Most people had service restored by 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with 275 Healdsburg customers still without power as of 3:30 p.m. For more information, electric customers can call the city utility hotline at 707-431-7000. - A teacher from nearby Geyserville was named Sonoma County teacher of the year. Jesús Fernández, a social studies teacher at Geyserville New Tech Academy, was selected by the Sonoma County Office of Education (SCOE) from a pool of 20 nominees. In addition to winning the title of 2021-22 teacher of the year, Fernández is also nominated for the State of California’s Teacher of the Year program which will announce winners in September. - Do you need some help navigating the county's hiring process? Registration is now open for the upcoming Start Here! class. The virtual class, hosted by the County of Sonoma Human Resources, is intended for the public to help them navigate the county's job application, examination, and selection process. The class will take place on Sep. 8 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Although tickets are not required for the free event, participants must register in advance. (County of Sonoma)
- The curtain is rising on Chef Douglas Keane's new restaurant in Geyserville. Nearly 10 years ago, the acclimated chef and winner of the TV show “Top Chef Masters” closed the doors to Cyrus, his Michelin-starred Healdsburg restaurant, after a dispute with the restaurant’s landlord. On Sep. 9, the restaurant will come alive once again, this time housed in an 8,000-square-foot concrete and glass complex that sits above more than an acre of Geyserville vineyards off Highway 128.
