Naming Process, Criteria
The Healdsburg City Council adopted a Park Naming Policy in 2002 to create an equitable way to name existing and future park and/or recreation facilities. The objectives of this policy include ensuring the naming/memorializing of public parks and recreation facilities enhances the values and heritage of community interests. As well as, encourage the dedication of land or groups and public use by individuals and groups, and provide recognition of their achievements or community contributions.
The process of naming parks in the Healdsburg community is guided by principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, aiming to represent the entire community. While prioritizing names with local significance, the option of names with broader connections to California or the nation is open, provided it aligns with the Park Naming Policy.
To maintain clarity and distinction, park names will not duplicate those of existing school sites or public facilities, unless the sites are adjacent. Furthermore, the naming process takes into account the exceptional contributions of individuals who have made significant positive impacts on the community. This evaluation considers various factors such as the quality of their contributions, length of service, and other relevant aspects.
