Russian River Fisherman Collapses, Dies

75-year-old Frederick Dagnino, a Forestville resident, was fishing near Windsor Wednesday afternoon when he collapsed.

WINDSOR-A 75-year-old man collapsed and died while fishing in the Russian River near Windsor on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Frederick Dagnino, a Forestville resident, died in an incident initially reported at 1:52 p.m. near Riverfront Regional Park off of Eastside Road, sheriff’s officials said. A 911 caller said a man had collapsed, was unresponsive and another person was doing CPR upstream from the park, according to the sheriff’s office.

Windsor police and county sheriff’s deputies responded and hailed a fisherman in another boat to ferry them across the river, where other fishermen were performing CPR on Dagnino, sheriff’s officials said.

Emergency personnel continued lifesaving efforts and took him by boat to an awaiting ambulance in the Wohler Bridge area to go to a hospital, but he was later pronounced dead, sheriff’s officials said.

The county coroner’s office has not yet determined the cause of Dagnino’s death, but it is not considered suspicious, according to the sheriff’s office.
