SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Patch reader Melinda Pressler shared this photo she captured while visiting the Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve in Guerneville.

FUN FACT: It was a Victorian tradition to grow ferns among upturned tree stumps, creating a garden feature known as a "stumpery." Stumperies have recently regained popularity, as they are low-maintenance garden features that require less pruning and upkeep than traditional gardens. A stumpery is a versatile, eco-friendly choice that can be large or small, depending on the space available. It utilizes recycled materials, thereby contributing to a sustainable gardening ethos.
