- The popular Big Peach Sizzler 10K and 5K race returns again this year on Labor Day in nearby Brookhaven. The race is hosted by the Atlanta-based Miles for Cystic Fibrosis, a nonprofit that supports families struggling with the high cost of cystic fibrosis. There are a few spots left for runners, walkers, volunteers, and race sponsors — register and learn more at the race website. (Rough Draft Atlanta)
- As part of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, hundreds of striking local actors, writers, and labor unions demonstrated on Tuesday night down the road in Atlanta as part of the National Day of Solidarity. The writer's union has been on strike for 112 days, and the actor's union has been on strike for 40 days to continue the fight for pay increases and protection from the use of artificial intelligence. The strikes could continue for weeks, if not months, as union reps continue to meet with studios over their contracts. (WSB Atlanta)
- The popular Movies by Moonlight series returns this Friday, Aug. 25, on the Heritage Amphitheater Lawn for a screening of "The Lion King." - It's back-to-school time, and the Healthy Youth USA Foundation is having a 17th-anniversary celebration in Sandy Springs on Sep. 6.
