- Sandy Springs has concluded its temporary programming collaboration with Art Sandy Springs (ArtSS) at the Abernathy Arts Center, which began in July 2019. The city council has now approved a new agreement for the fiscal year 2024, allocating $50,000 to ArtSS with the possibility of renewal for subsequent years, including increased funding and an escalator clause. This renewed agreement aims to support an ArtSS employee in coordinating marketing, program planning, instructor hiring, and providing necessary art supplies and equipment. - The Women's Business Network will host a "Girls Night Out" event on Aug. 8 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at The Drake Closet in Sandy Springs. Attendees, both members and non-members, can enjoy light bites, drinks, networking, and shopping for a cause. The event supports The Drake House, a charitable organization providing housing and empowerment programs to homeless single mothers and their children, and attendees can contribute by donating gently used ladies' clothing and accessories during the event. - After nearly a month on the run, Ahmed Kawah, 37, was arrested by DeKalb County Sheriff officials on Aug. 2 while on a MARTA bus in nearby Decatur. Kawah had been sought since Jul. 9, when his brother, Anthony Bronson, 56, was found shot to death at Park at 500 Apartment Homes in Stone Mountain; the motive for the shooting remains unknown. Charged with felony malice murder, Kawah was apprehended without incident. (WSB Atlanta)
