Here are the top three stories in Sandy Springs today:
- Fulton County is offering residents the opportunity to enroll in the Citizens University (FCCU) course, providing insights into county operations. The 10-week program, beginning with an orientation class on Sep. 14, offers an in-depth understanding of government functioning, including law processes and expenditure of tax dollars. Due to the pandemic, this FCCU session is the first since 2019. (Fulton County, GA)
- The Atlanta chapter of Adult Children of Aging Parents is organizing a free program on effective communication with loved ones who have dementia. The educational event, titled "Communicating with Individuals Living the Dementia Experience," will provide techniques for navigating this topic, building relationships, and overcoming challenges. The program, led by Dementia Team Lead Staci Hannah, will take place on Sep. 13 at the Town Square Sandy Springs Adult Day and Alzheimer’s Resource Center and will focus on supporting those living with dementia and their caregivers. - Fulton County Commissioner Bridget Thorne (District 1) has been selected by President Mary Joe McGuire to serve on the National Association of Counties (NACo) Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee. In this role, Commissioner Thorne will represent Fulton County residents and contribute to shaping national policy on issues related to criminal justice and public safety systems. The committee is responsible for addressing matters including criminal justice planning, law enforcement, courts, emergency management, and more. Commissioner Thorne's background in software design, community advocacy, and volunteer work makes her a valuable addition to this effort. (Fulton County, GA)
