Here are the top three stories today in Sandy Springs:
- The City Springs Theatre Conservatory is presenting "Legally Blonde The Musical JR." at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center on Aug. 25-26. The production, based on the acclaimed Broadway Musical and beloved film, follows the empowering journey of Elle Woods as she challenges stereotypes while pursuing her dreams. The Conservatory, which has served over 124,000 Atlanta-area students in five years, offers various educational programs, and the cast of 38 students from across metro Atlanta is part of its pre-professional program. Ticket prices range from $15 to $25. (Northside Neighbor)
- Sandy Springs lacks its own jail and relies on agreements with other law enforcement agencies for inmate housing. Recently, the city council renewed agreements for inmate housing, with Pickens County Sheriff's Office seeking an increase from $45 to $55 per inmate per day, and Sandy Springs requesting a 40 percent increase from $50 to $70 per person per day. Although an alternative option exists at Fulton County's Alpharetta Jail Annex for $60 per inmate per day, the city views it unfavorably due to past coordination and performance issues. - As part of the Transform 285/400 Interchange reconstruction project, lanes are set to reopen I-285 westbound between Ashford Dunwoody Road and Roswell Road. This reopening follows lane reductions in October 2022 for bridge reconstruction at critical points. The completion of mainline bridges over Glenridge Drive, State Route 400, and Peachtree Dunwoody Road signifies a significant step toward the project's finalization. The lane reopening process will begin today (Aug. 12), at 10:00 p.m., with full lanes anticipated to be accessible by Sunday, Aug. 13, at 12:00 p.m., although dates are subject to change due to weather or other factors.
